Air Quality Monitoring

Despite numerous uncontrollable variables, the company has invested in continuous air quality monitoring. Currently, the Porto de Leixões has two stations that allow for permanent (365 days/year, 24 hours/day) monitoring of particle emissions resulting from various port activities. These stations also include systems for monitoring rainfall, wind direction, and wind speed, enabling real-time data visualization and limit setting.

When values exceed the established limits, the company attempts to identify the source and implement mitigation measures. Results from continuous monitoring are integrated into monthly reports on air quality and noise at Porto de Leixões, prepared by an external entity to APDL.

Participation in the AIRSHIP Project – "Impact of Maritime Transport and Harbour Emissions on the Air Quality of Portugal: Present and Future Scenarios"

Developed by the University of Aveiro, this project aims to estimate emissions under current and future scenarios (climate change) and their impact on urban and local air quality by inventorying emissions from Porto de Leixões and calculating emissions for new projects that may be implemented at the port.
