Port of Leixões handled a record number of 19.5 Million tonnes of commodities
Last year, the Port of Leixões handled a fresh record number of 19.5 Million tonnes of cargo, 1.2 Million more than the previous year. These numbers represents an increase of 8% over 2016 and an increase of 725.000 tonnes compared to the previous high recorded in 2015.
Liquid Bulk and Ro-Ro cargo increased both 18% over the previous year of 2016. In fact, Ro-Ro operations at Leixões have overcome 1 Million tonnes.
The port continues in a path of sustained growth having handled a monthly average of more than 1.6 Million tonnes of commodities.
Considering Export operations, Leixões continued to be the most prominent port of the country mainly in containerized cargo, refined produts, iron/steel and granite.
In imports, the most significant commodities handled were the crude oil, woodchips and scrap metal.
