Leixões grew 3.7% and handled 18.7 million tons of commodities

The Port of de Leixões handled in 2015 a record number of 18.7 million tons of commodities, which meant an increase of 3.7% over 2014. Considering the Port of Viana do Castelo, 19.2 million tons of commodities were handled last year.


From January to December, Leixões grew 6.7% in Liquid Bulk, 12.1% in Break Bulk, 10.5% in Solid Bulk. and 73% in Ro-Ro Cargo.


However, Containerized Cargo decreased 6.4% in TEU and 7.5% in number. This decline was due to a significant reduction in exports to Angola. 

During 2015, exports through Leixões had as destination 184 different countries and a monthly average of 1.6 million tons of commodities handled. Because of that, 2015 ended as the best year ever, with new records in Liquid and Solid Bulk and also in Ro-Ro.
