Port of Leixões grows 5% until May

The Port of Leixões handled 1.68 million tonnes of commodities during May, making it the busiest month of the year with an increase of 36% compared to the same month last year.

From January to May, there was an increased of 5% compared to 2012. In this period, the port handled 7.48 million tons of commodities.


The Containerized Cargo increased 7%, Ro-Ro Cargo grew 770% and Liquid Bulk Cargo grew 5.4%. On the other hand, Break Bulk Cargo had no significant changes and Solid Bulk decreased by 12%.

The containers movement grew by 10%, both in number and in TEU.

Exports through the Port of Leixões also continue to grow. In this period there was an increase of 5% over the previous year. We highlight the growth of Paper and Cardboard (+35%), Cube stones (+30%) and Ceramics (+18%).

Angola, France and Sweden were the countries of destination that contributed the most to this growth.
