Port of Leixões Accident Clarification

The Port Authority of Leixões clarifies that on January 16, the cargo ship 'Erasmos' collided with the oil tanker 'Emerald Blue' which was docked at the Oil Terminal (Pier B). This accident occurs due to a malfunction of ships' helm causing serious damage to the ship and to the Pier B of the Oil Terminal.

We also inform that there were no victims or oil spill due to the automatic ship release system that the concessionaire GALP has on its equipment.

The Port Authority of Leixões and the concessionaire GALP undertook an evaluation process in order to resume service at the terminal as soon as possible. The ship has already been repaired and is anchored outside the port awaiting authorization to proceed.

The Port Authority of Leixões requested a rigorous investigation of the accident to an external company for the clearance of responsibilities, but mainly to obtain recommendations in order to implement possible improvements in the safety procedures.
