15 million tonnes handled in Leixões until October

The Port of Leixões handled 15 million tonnes of commodities until October which represents an increase of 1.1% over the same period last year.


The Containerized cargo increased by 6.8%, Break Bulk Cargo increased by 5.3% and Dry Bulk Cargo increased 3.7%. The highest growth was recorded in Ro-Ro Cargo with 861.2%. However,  Liquid Bulk Cargo dropped 8.6%.

Exports through Leixões continue to grow. There was an increase of 7.1% compared to the same period of 2013 which means 5 million more tonnes of exported cargo.

Until October, exportation of pellets stood out with the most significant increase (+102%), followed by beverages (+21.9%), stone cubes (+19.5%) and paper and cardboard (+18.1 %).

The most frequent destination of exports is still Angola.

However, Belgium was the country with the highest growth (+62.6%), with particularly emphasis for refined products.
