Port of Leixões grew 28% in the number of passengers
During the first semester of 2014, the Port of Leixões welcomed 33 cruise ship calls, which represents an increase of 22% compared to the 27 calls recorded in the same period last year. Leixões also grew in the number of passengers (28%) by welcoming 24 401 passengers against 18 997 in the previous year.
In this period, the Port of Leixões welcomed 5 inaugural calls: AIDA LUNA, ADONIA, LOUIS AURA, HORIZON and MEIN SCHIFF 3 and two new cruise companies started its operations in this port: AIDA Cruises and TUI Cruises.
For the second half of the year, 45 more cruise ship calls are scheduled which will bring more than 60 000 passengers to the Port of Leixões.
It will be a period of higher activity in Cruises explained by its seasonality which will lead the Port of Leixões to a new record both in the number of calls and in the number of passengers.
Therefore, it is expected that the cruise market will react positively to the strategy developed by the Port Authority in the international affirmation of the Port of Leixões as a cruise port.
