In accordance with the provisions of the International Health Regulations 2005 (RSI) 1, the port developed its plan, Contingency Plan for the Leixões Port Authority, following the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Norms and Guidelines of the Directorate- General of Health (DGS) and the Port Health Authority, related to infection by the new Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that evolves to the disease COVID-19.
The Contingency Plan of the Leixões Port Authority thus results from the integration of the Contingency Plan of the Port Health Authority, Matosinhos Municipality Health Authority, International Health and the Concessionaires' Contingency Plans
The various plans in their preparation follow the various national and international guidelines:
Port Health Authority Contingency Plan guidelines;
Guideline No. 006/2020 of 02/26/2020 - SARS-CoV-2 infection (COVID-19). Prevention, control and surveillance procedures in companies;
Guideline No. 005/2020 of 02/26/2020 - SARS-CoV-2 infection (COVID-19). Procedures for ports and travellers by sea;
Contingency plans for port operators;
Contingency plans for entities based in the port.

As a Port Infrastructure, the plan defines the procedures to be adopted in the analysis of the notifications prior to the arrival of the ships, in the face of a suspicious case either on board or in the port facilities, as well as the communication and procedures in relation to validated cases.
In addition to the ship's crews and passengers, with regard to port workers, the document describes and defines the main stages of infection by the new Coronavirus SARS-CoV-22, the causal agent of COVID-19, as well as the procedures to be adopted before the worker with symptoms of this infection.
The Plan will be updated at any time, taking into account the evolution of the epidemiological framework of COVID-19.
