APDL - Administração dos Portos do Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo, SA, will grant the license for the private use of the public water area at the northern jetty of Barra do Douro, in the municipality of Porto, for the installation of a small production unit of renewable energy from ocean waves.
This intention follows the assumptions that were at the beginning of the project for the construction of the Douro jetties and the installation of a wave energy production unit and which this administration is now implementing as part of the Energy Transition Roadmap of the Port of Leixões for carbon neutrality that APDL has in progress.
There is already an expression of interest from the company EW Portugal - Wave Energy Solutions Unipessoal, Lda (EWP - Eco Wave Power (EWP)) to APDL for the installation of a small production unit (UPP) with a maximum installed capacity of 1 MW, with electrical equipment, conversion units and floats attached to the aforementioned breakwater, for the production of renewable energy from ocean waves. The Swedish company has developed a patented, intelligent and cost-effective technology for converting ocean waves into green electricity.
The project, which is innovative in Portugal, consists in a first phase of the installation of a small production unit, consisting of floats and energy conversion units, on the northern breakwater of Barra do Douro - South Structure, which will make it possible to capture the energy of the waves and convert it into electrical energy. For this purpose, EWP has registered its project 1 MW with the General Directorate of Energy and Geology and obtained the corresponding connection power.
The project is in line with the government's plan for the development of renewable energy, a sectorthat could generate € 254 million in investment and € 280 million in gross value added and create 1500 new jobs. The main strategic objective of the plan is to create a competitive and innovative industrial export cluster for marine renewable energies, especially wave energy.
In view of the above, all those interested in the private use of this part have the possibility, within 30 working days from the working day following the publication of this notice in the Diário da República, to apply for the issuance of the title with the same subject matter and purpose, or to object to the granting of the title advertised herein, to the APDL services located at Av. da Liberdade, 4450 -718 Leça da Palmeira, or by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org, under the conditions set forth in the aforementioned legal provisions.
