As part of the Energy Transition Roadmap from the Port of Leixões to Carbon Neutrality, on which APDL is working, a proposal has been made by the company Eco Wave Power (EWP) to support the generation of clean energy from ocean waves.
EWP is an international company, leader in wave energy technology, which has developed a patented, smart and cost-efficient technology to convert ocean waves into clean electricity.
The project, which is innovative in Portugal, consists in a first phase of the installation of a small production unit of floats and energy conversion units on the northern breakwater / pier of Barra do Douro - South Structure, which make it possible to capture the energy of the waves and convert it into electrical energy.
To this end, EWP has registered its project 1 MW with the General Directorate of Energy and Geology and has been allocated the corresponding connected load.
The project is in line with the government's plan for the development of renewable energy, a sector that could generate €254 million in investment and € 280 million in gross value added and create 1500 new jobs. The main strategic objective of the plan is to create a competitive and innovative industrial export cluster for marine renewable energies, wave energy
