Until September, Leixões was visited by 83.120 passengers and reported 83 cruise calls, over the 58.449 passengers and 68 calls of 2016.
The Porto Cruise Terminal in Matosinhos hosted 38 cruise calls and nearly 68.000 passengers. The North Terminal in Leça da Palmeira welcomed 45 cruise calls and almost 15.000 passengers.
As usual, the majority of cruise travelers visiting Porto and the North of Portugal Region were British, counting 45.000 passengers, followed by Germans, Americans and Australians, among others from 102 other nations.
Among the highlights of this season were nine ships calling Leixões for the first time and three more are expected until the end of the year. First-timers in Leixões were the Ocean Dream, Tui Discovery 2, Costa Magica, Seven Seas Explorer, Star Pride, Silver Spirit, Island Sky, Aida Sol and Silver Muse. Viking Star, Seven Seas Navigator and Aida Vita will also visit Leixões for the first time this year.
These numbers emerges from the promotion of this port authority in Porto and North of Portugal Region as a Cruise Destination and also in the Port of Leixões as a Cruise Port, which has been conquering more and more new companies and new cruise ships.
More 17 cruise calls and nearly 17.000 passengers are expected for the last three months of the year, which will make of 2017 the best year ever for cruise activity at the Port of Leixões. Final numbers will reach 100 cruise ship calls and 100.000 passengers.
