On September 15, the Port of Leixões received the inaugural call of the Celebrity Infinity.

This modern ship of Royal Caribbean Celebrity docked at Leixões at 06:30 sailing from Vigo on a 12 nights "Wine Cruise".

Since this is its first visit at Leixões, the Port Authority organized a special reception for passengers and crew. The "Orfeão de Matosinhos" welcomed the arrival of the first passengers with dances and songs.

An official delegation from the Port Authority was received on board by the captain of the ship for the traditional ceremony of plaques exchange commemorating the inaugural call.

The nearly 2,200 passengers from many different nationalities, mainly British and American, embarked at the Port of Harwich in the United Kingdom and called the ports of Le Havre, Le Verdon, Bilbao, Vigo and finally Leixões.

From these ports, cruisers had the opportunity to visit the cities of Paris, Guimarães and Porto, as well as the major wine regions of the Atlantic Europe like Bordeaux, Gijon, La Rioja, Douro Valley and "vinho verde" region.

At the Port of Leixões, buses were waiting for passengers for a visit to the oldest wine region, the Douro Valley and also the "vinho verde" region. Some passengers chose to take a little trip and visited the Sanctuary of Fátima.

Many passengers preferred to shop in Matosinhos or spend time at the beach, enjoying the sunny day.

The Celebrity Infinity left the new cruise pier of the Port of Leixões at 18:00 returning to the Port of Harwich.
