On November 11, the Port of Leixões welcomes the maiden call of the Portuguese-built cruise ship MS SPITSBERGEN
MS SPITSBERGEN was built in 2009 in Portugal by Viana do Castelo shipyards, designed as a ferry ship and originally named "Atlantida".
It was purchased by Hurtigruten in 2015 and named SPITSBERGEN after the largest island in the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard.
The 340-passenger ship Spitsbergen is one of the newest in the fleet. Her name was selected by fans of the line in a Facebook contest.
Her itinerary program is based on Arctic polar expeditions and Norwegian Coastal Voyages. Ship's routes include the beautiful Norwegian fjords..
Arrives at Leixões North Terminal coming from Vigo with only 78 passengers on board, heading towards Lisbon in the late afternoon.
A plaques exchange ceremony will be held on board the SPITSBERGEN celebrating the first visit of the ship to Leixões.
